Children & ages: Sarah - 5, Matthew - 5, Emily - 5
Occupation: Financial Services/Banking - Commercial Lender
Hobbies/Interests: Playing with the kids (99% of my time-I love it!),
going to sporting events (Mizzou, Rams, Cardinals), traveling
Favorite high school memories:
I have so many great
memories. The friendships; Having the privilege to be a part of team sports
at RHS, with all the pride we felt is still special to me; cruising the same
streets over and over again (why did we do that?); and you can't forget the
parties.
What have you been up to since high school?:
After graduation from UMC (I was on the "5 year" plan - had no idea what I
wanted to do!), I moved to St. Louis and started my career in financial
services. During graduate school in 1989, I met my wife, Karen, whom I
married in 1991. While Karen was working in the health services industry, I
worked at Boatmens Bank (which became NationsBank, which became Bank of
America). At Christmas time 1996, Karen and I were SHOCKED to find out that
we were going to be the parents of triplets! Instant Family! Sarah, Matthew
and Emily have been the ultimate blessing for us; three is now our lucky
number. In 1999, we decided to move from St. Louis to Columbia, where I
worked at GE Capital Corp. Deciding to return to banking, I recently
resigned from GE Capital after accepting a position at US Bank in Columbia.

Lisa Lortz

Name: Lisa Constance
Spouse Name: Eric
City: Rolla
State: Mo
Children & ages: Kristen-15, Trevor-9
Occupation: Teacher
Hobbies/Interests: I am most interested in doing whatever I can with my
family, but I enjoy collecting just about anything that's red, white, and
blue (this interest came long before 9-11, but has intensified since);
exploring, reading, and learning about U.S. history.
Favorite high school memories:
Being young and
carefree, good friends, dances, crushes and romances, cheerleading the one
and only year I tried out, off-campus lunches, and especially graduation!
What have you been up to since high school?:
I married (too young!) a year after graduation, and divorced a few years
later. I can never say that I regret it, though, because I have the best 15
year-old daughter that anyone could hope for (teenage attitude and all!)
from that marriage. During those years, I was a secretary for a computer
company, Video Systems Engineering, a court clerk for the City of Rolla
Municipal Court, and a Claims Service Assistant for State Farm Insurance, a
company I still highly regard. It was at my job with State Farm that I
became close friends with Carolyn Duncan (you knew her as Carolyn Heimbaugh),
through whom I was very thankfully introduced to my current husband and true
love of my life, Eric, a coworker of her husband's at the U.S.G.S.
In January of 1990, I began my education at UMR (better late than never)as a
beginning to fulfilling my desire to become a teacher. After taking all the
courses I could there, I completed the education-specific classes and earned
my B.S. through Drury University. During this time, my husband legally
adopted Kristen, who was already his daughter in his heart and in hers, and
in 1993, we became the proud parents of our adorable and loving son, Trevor.
For the past six years, I have been teaching 5th grade at Rolla Middle
School while earning my Master's in Education in 2000 and still trying to be
a good wife and mother. I'm excited to say that, for the next school year,
I have taken a leave of absence from my job so that I can devote more time
to my family. I actually look forward to keeping a clean house, cooking an
occasional meal, and even reading books that I just haven't had time to do.
Keeping up with my kids will be a full-time job in itself; I'm looking
forward to volunteering at my son's school, taking him to soccer,
basketball, etc. practices, and any other endeavor he will be involved in,
as well as watching my daughter cheer for the RHS football games, going with
her to Tulsa, OK, San Antonio, TX, etc. for national competitions she will
compete in through a private cheerleading academy, and running her to and
from practices for both of these activities. I will also be involved with
the Rolla Area Sheltered Workshop as a board member (my sister works there),
and I hope to work with Special Olympics, too.
Words of wisdom:
Remember what it was
like to be young and think that nothing bad would happen to you, that it
would always be someone else? Well, here's how things I did (getting lots
of sunburns) or didn't do (listen to my parents and put on sunscreen) came
back to haunt me. I know this is long, so if you just read the words in
CAPS, and the last paragraph, you should get the "jist". When I was 26
years old, I learned that a small growth at the base of my right nostril was
basal cell carcinoma. Although this is a very treatable form of SKIN
CANCER, it is very scary, and in my case, its location made it worse.
Although it was "removed" at that time, it reappeared in the same place six
years later. Thankfully, this time, my original dermatologist couldn't get
me in for over a month, so I went to a specialist in Columbia instead. At
their facilities, they were able to cut away a little at a time, so as not
to remove more than necessary (yet to be sure to get it all), and check it
in their lab until it was completely gone. By the time they finished, they
had REMOVED A LARGE PORTION OF MY NOSTRIL AND A "DIME-SIZED" PIECE NEAR IT.
I was horrified, and words cannot explain the feelings and fears I had about
this MISFIGUREMENT. However, the next day, I was back at the hospital for
my first RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY. It's amazing what they can do! My
wonderful plastic surgeon did the best that could be done, and it's only
slightly noticeable now. I'm very fortunate to have a husband who could see
me before, during, and after, and stand so close by me through the whole
thing. I never saw horror in his eyes; only love. Did I mention earlier
that he was a Godsend?
Anyway, PLEASE take skin protection in the sun seriously. The
dermatologists I saw all said that they are seeing a large increase in skin
cancers from sun exposure, and one even mentioned treating a 13 year-old!
One more thing that, to me, is very important. I did get many sunburns as a
child (which greatly increases chances of skin cancer), but both times that
it showed up, I had, within the past few months, been to a tanning booth.
Those were the ONLY two time periods that I tanned at a salon. Interpret
that as you wish, but please teach your children to use sunscreen! As I
tell my students, BE SUN SAFE!

Name: Holly Foster
Spouse Name: Jeff
City: Middlesburg (right outside of Jacksonville)
State: FL
Children & ages: Cory Foster (13)
Occupation: Certified Legal Assistant
Hobbies/Interests: Spending time with my family. Running my son and all
his friends to their activities. Motorcycle riding, Boating, Reading,
Singing.
Favorite high school memories: What I remember most about high school
relating to Rolla is how much I missed all of you after I had to move before
10th grade. Those years at Mark Twain elementary, and Rolla
Junior High were so special to me. Cheerleading, sleep overs, teepeeing
houses and getting caught by the police. All the support I received when I
hurt my leg and had to cheer in a cast. I just never made those kinds of
friends again until I met my husband.
What have you been up to since high school?:
I moved to Lexington, Va. following my 9th grade year in Rolla. I
graduated high school there and went to William Woods College in Fulton, Mo.
I attended WWC for a year and a half before meeting and marrying my husband
who was stationed in the Navy in Key West, Florida. Following our tour in
Key West we moved to Oahu, Hawaii for 3 years, to Memphis for 3 years (at
which time I had our son Cory and then the military moved us to
Jacksonville, Florida where we have been ever since. I returned to college
and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Legal Assisting. I took the
national certification test and passed and was fortunate to find an
excellent job in a small law firm, where I have worked for the past four
years. My goal is to start law school this fall on a part-time basis. My
husband recently retired as a Chief in the Navy and we have decided to
remain in Jacksonville so that we do not have to move our son the way we
were moved as kids. Cory has just entered junior high and I have enjoyed
watching him experience the fullness of life, the security of good friends
and strong family; however I am NOT having fun trying to do 7th
grade homework again…
Words of wisdom:
It is never to late – to
renew an acquaintance, say your sorry, go back to school, be a better
person.
Anything else significant you would like to share:
I think there is great
truth to the adage from the film “Stand by Me” that you never make friends
like the ones you had when you were 12. I realize we have all made good
friends since then be it spouses, girl friends, boyfriends; however, when
you’re young there seems to be more honesty and forthrightness in the
friendships. Girls and boys were friends before they became interested in
each other. I made some truly great friends, both boys and girls, when I
went to school in Rolla that helped shape who I am today both as a friend, a
wife and a mother and I wish all of you the very best in life.
