Missing all of my
friends in Rolla (not a happy memory)
In West Virginia I continued to play football, run track, and do a little
acting.
What have you been up to since high school?:
After living almost all of my life in Rolla, my family moved to Morgantown,
WV between my 9th and 10th grade year. I saw many of you again when we came
back for a visit in early 1980. That was tough; Rolla was a great place to
grow up and I had to leave many life-long friends behind.
After graduating from Morgantown High, I went to West Virginia University
for a while, spent 18 months in Venezuela doing church missionary service,
and then finished my degree in computer science at Brigham Young University.
It was there that I met up with many of my old Rolla friends: Jeff Dawson,
Steve Gale, Russell Pearson, Jim Mitchell, and several others. Steve dragged
me to a dance where I met my lovely wife, Teresa (thanks Steve!). With
various jobs, we have bounced around in California, Texas, and have ended up
living happily near Boise, Idaho where I work for Micron Technology.
Through it all, I have always considered myself to be a Bulldog and I tell
people that I am from Rolla. Martha accepted me as an honorary member of the
class of '82 and my wife and I made plans to attend to reunion this Summer
then we received the difficult news that our son, Jason, has cancer. Over
the last seven months he has endured two surgeries, chemo, radiation and
many other treatments. He has been truly blessed through it all and I am
glad to say that he is doing far better now than the doctors had
anticipated. Unfortunately though, all is not done and we have had to modify
all of our Summer plans. Please have a good time without us. I will be
thinking about all of you.
If you remember me or just want to say "hi" I would appreciate hearing from
you!
Words of wisdom:
Try not to move your
kids right before they turn 16.
Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe.

Children & ages: Jeremy 14, Jodi 9
Occupation: Administrator for Phelps Co. Prosecuting Attorneys Office
Hobbies/Interests: I love photography, scrapbooking, reading, listening
to music, working in my yard w/my flowers and plants, spending time with my
family and my friends.
Favorite high school memories:
My favorite memory of
high school is the carefree times, hanging out with my friends, and seeing
how many people Colly and I could confuse by being twins.
What have you been up to since high school?:
After High School, Colly (my twin) and I went to Seattle, Washington for a
month. That was really cool. When I returned I went to work at Krogers and
Piggly Wiggly. What a goal! I spent the next couple of years partying way
too much. Finally I settled down and got a real job at the Prosecutor's
Office and have been there ever since.
In 1986 I met and married my husband of 16 years. Together we have two
children, Jeremy who is 14 and who is probably the most exceptional person I
know, he must have taken after his Aunt Colly. Jodi who is 9 and a carbon
copy of me. That's scary.
We have lived outside of Rolla for about 13 years on a 10 acres place with
lots of animals. It keeps us busy but we enjoy it.
Words of wisdom:
What I would give to be
young and in High School again. We did not appreciate that time enough....

Name: Debbie Svec
Spouse Name: Chuck
City: St. Charles
State: Mo
Children & ages: Kevin Sevic – Age 15 and Nicholas Svec – Age 12
Occupation: Branch Supervisor at Allegiant Bank
Hobbies/Interests: Love to read, but never really have time. Interests
would include Boy Scouts as both of my boys are very active and this
involves me transporting them back and forth to meetings and other scouting
activities. I occasionally cross-stitch; the last project only took me six
years to finish! I enjoy going to see the Cardinals play and am excited
about baseball season starting. Of course, I love to shop and spending time
out with the girls.
Favorite high school memories:
Looking back now, I
would have to say that my best memories are the times I spend with my
friends just hanging out. I realize now how simple things were and how easy
we had it as teenagers. It is sad to see some of the simpler things
disappear and everyday life being such a difficult challenge.
What have you been up to since high school?:
After graduation, I attended SMSU for two years, getting an Associate’s
Degree which now has no relevance to what I am doing. I married my husband
in September 1984 and have followed him around since then. He was an officer
in the USAF and our first assignment took us to Grand Forks AFB, North
Dakota. Talk about cold winters and lots of snow. This is where Kevin was
born, in March 1987. Not much else to do in the winter, but make babies.
After North Dakota, we went to RAF Upper Heyford, England. We lived about 15
miles outside of Oxford. It was really exciting living in another country
and seeing all the sights. It was like going back in time at least twenty
years. We traveled all over England and even visited Wales. Nicholas was
born in July 1990. He has two birth certificates. One is from the British
government and the other is from the US. The big event while we were there
was the opening of the first drive-thru McDonald’s. Driving on the opposite
side of the road was a challenge, but then again everything seemed backwards
there. Next we moved to Scott AFB in Belleville, Illinois. It was nice being
close to family for a change. Our last stop was Fort Dix, New Jersey. Thank
goodness we were only there for 1 1/2 years. The east coast folks certainly
do everything faster than us folks in the Midwest. After separating from the
Air Force, we moved to Independence, Missouri. After three years, we got
restless and moved to St. Charles, Missouri. We decided that this is where
we are going to stay for a while so the kids can finish school. Chuck is an
instructor at Sanford-Brown College and the kids can go there for free. How
can any parent pass up a deal like that? I am working at Allegiant Bank
(Official Bank of the St. Louis Rams – no, I don’t get free tickets). I am
the Branch Supervisor and love my job. I have an excellent boss and great
staff that work for me; plus I get to play with money every day. I am hoping
that one day I will get to take my work home with me. We are glad to be
living closer to our families.
Words of wisdom:
Take each day at a time
and always take the Lord with you. Life is just too short to worry about the
little things. God is always up watching, so you might as well leave your
problems with him. Enjoy your family and friends. Count each blessing you
receive.
